Websites
too many sites, too little time…
I control quite a few websites. More than can be counted on one hand, but less than could be counted on two. I have a hard time remembering them all. Sure, one’s only my .mac website, and all it has on it are links to my other sites, but it’s still webspace I control and can utilize. A bit back I got tired of one of my sites, decided to take down another for content reasons, and never got a third off the ground. I also signed over the reigns of yet another site (I no longer wanted to maintain or develop), dedicated to a social event, to a friend.
All this just goes towards explaining the redesign of this site. I missed having somewhere to journal. And I have great ideas for this site and all my others. I even have an idea for a new site (a semi-commercial venture). But it will be some time before I get to other sites. I want this one locked down and set up perfectly. It’s getting close, but there is still a lot to do (click the orb in the upper left corner for a list of changes to be made).

Tori Amos, Erin, and me
photo taken November 10, 2007.

Left to right: Tori (Amos), Erin, and me.
We saw Tori a few months back. This photo was taken back stage at a “meet & greet.” Meeting tori was on Erin’s list of things she wanted to do. Lifetime goals and all that. I think this was her 5th time seeing tori (and my second).
I’m lucky in that I have met nearly every musician or author I’ve cared to meet; Glen Cook (I submitted the photo on his wiki entry), Bob Mould, Steven Brust, The Wedding Present, Mike VanPortfleet, and a slew of other people from working at a radio station and a Borders. I can’t even remember all of them. I’m also lucky in that I have seen nearly every musician live that I care to. Ok, not David Bowie, and not NIN, but pretty much everyone else.
I’m still a music junkie with the motto of “anyone live,” but it has been a while since I’ve been to a concert. I think the last one was Pieta Brown.

Narcissistic Bastard
the more things change…
I always feel a bit funny about throwing pictures of myself on my sites, but it comes down to the fact I am the only one who doesn’t get pissed when a camera is stuck in my face. And by the way, this site lands under my name. It’s going to therefore, kind of by definition, be focused on me.
I’ve been going through the old site. Seeing what needs to make it over to this site. Seeing what can be salvaged and what needs to be thrown away. I came across a photo of me taken nearly 10 years ago. I’m including it in this post. As you can see I have wild hair and a fairly full beard. I think I still pretty much look like that. Ok, the hair’s a bit thinner on top, and I tend to keep it shorter, but you can see from other photos on this site that I don’t look that terribly different.
I could be wrong. Maybe I am one of those guys in total denial.
Coming Along
making progress
I have comments working. They are ugly right now, but they work. I still have a lot to do.
I have to create more sidebar elements (like ads and such), a 404 page, have to add in a gallery, decide if I want forums (probably not), have to enable comments, enable comment preview, have to take off the continue reading link for shorter posts, come up with a logo and an favicon.ico, decrease the opacity of the window backgrounds (can’t figure this out), and increase the font size, style links, and I have to make the background image a bit bigger (and make them dynamic). I think I will keep a running list of what I have to do, and put what I have done below the jump.

Fred Thompson
former senator, former “Law & Order” star, former presidential candidate

I posted this pen on eBay and it sold for $0.99. While for a short time I did have dreams of it selling for thousands these dreams proved to be as realistic as Thompson’s Presidential hopes. I did find some irony in that the day I was packing it up to be sent out Thompson dropped out of the race.
