Random Stuff
rambling…
I’m pretty darn tired for some reason. I took a nice long nap yesterday, so didn’t sleep the best last night, but I’m not sure if that’s it. I think there’s also something about not really being that excited about anything right now. I am just imagining the bed. In fact, as soon as I am done typing this, will probably crawl in there and watch an episode of “Reaper” or something.
I’ve been dedicating a lot of my time to my jackassletters site. I made a dynamically generated google sitemap, but for some reason google is still not indexing any of my pages. I thought it might have had to do with non-unique headers, or metadata that wasn’t exciting or matched the page, so now I have it filling in the subject of the post in the headers and in the metadata. I even went to far as to create title hearders that match this as well, so an article on Nair really should be showing up as such.
I think it might have to with the way my site is only a single post to a page and each new post pushes everything else back by one, but honestly, at this point I am nearly ready to give up.
I am posting unanswered letters from Fox news all this week. Then next week I think it will be the final letters I have left to go up. I am then thinking of a couple week hiatus to see how google treats the site if it doesn’t change, to see the web numbers if I am not contributing to them, and to take some time to work on other projects.

Site Work
coming along fine…
So my jackassletters.com site is pretty close to done. Oh, I have a lot more planned for it, but the base functionality is there. I’ve gotten around 15 responses, and I’ve been having a blast. I still need to enable commenting, need to make the gallery look a bit better, need to come up with a contact form, and need more logos, but at this point the bottleneck is typing in the responses I receive.
I don’t intend to have this site be as busy, complex, or cluttered as some of my previous projects. This will be an exercise in minimalism for me.
I’m not really sure what my long term goals are with the site. I guess to just have some fun, see how long before I end up in jail, and keep writing! How many people do you know who have written the President and Vice President, one of his Senators, his Governor, the Queen of England, the ATF, the FBI, the CIA, the NYT (New York Times), the NAACP, Rev. Wright, Casey’s, Budweiser, the American Kennel Club, Red Lobster, The Cheesecake Factory, Jehova’s Witnesses, the Church of Jesus Christ and the Later-Day Saints, Scientologists, Des Moines Art Center, Steve Jobs, Wal-Mart, and some 60 other people or companies in the last three weeks!
Ok, how many people you know who wrote even one letter that used the actual US Post Office for delivery?
Not that I ever failed to look forward to the workday ending, and getting my ass home, but now I have something to look forward to when I get there. I always check the mailbox as soon as I pull into the garage! I am still optimistic and keep thinking “I’ll have 5 or more tonight!” My record is 4, but that only happened once or twice.
Yesterday I only got one letter, it’s 15 minutes too early to see if I got one today, so it’s coffee time.
Well, check the site out if you like, let me know what you think, and check back often. A new letter goes up every morning, M-F, at 7 AM.

Seems so Odd
comes and goes…
I’m sure this pretty much happens to everyone, but I got paid this morning, so sat dow with my bills, and my online account, figured out what had to be paid, how much I’d need to get to the next payday, and what could be paid out of the rest. I knocked the account down to the minimum in a few keystrokes. I actually have a decent (for me) reserve at this point, so even if I overlooked something (I didn’t), all would still be well.
I know is part of the whole being an adult thing, but it’s amazing to me how much cash I do go though. And I’m not talking fun things or anything. I just mean my standard bills. I always feel poor that the beginning of the month though, or like this check hardly matters, since between my three largest bills (they land between the 1st and the 6th) my check is pretty much devastated. Again, not complaining here. If there is a complaint, it’s that I wish at least one of the bills would come a couple weeks later.
This check had a little extra in it, but I put this towards a credit card. I effed up on how much I was keeping back a couple check ago, and those two weeks were little fun. I thought about adding this cash to the reserves, but think making sure as much goes out the door as possible is the wiser choice. This way, it’s not there to tempt me. Ha!
Not much more to say one this.

Heya
long time, no see….
I’m coming to the sad realization there just isn’t enough time in the day to do everything I want to do. Maybe I need to look into retirement. Ha! It’s been a week since I’ve posted here, which I think is a record since I started journalling again. Part of it is because I’ve been working on another site, part of it is because I really haven’t had a lot I want to say here.
I’m still reading the same damn book (I’m pacing myself). I haven’t been to see a movie in some time. No vacations or road trips to speak of (though I did put in for a vacation day!). My cat hasn’t done anything worth talking about (she never does). I don’t know. Nothing exciting. I do have several half finished posts. Maybe I should just knock one of those out and get it up here. Or repost a post from one of my older sites.
I miss writing here on a regular/daily basis. Need to make the effort again. Then once I get going the minutia of my life will seem epic once again and I can post about how I managed to get my nails clipped, the bathroom cleaned, and the sheets washed (all things that really do need done). If you care to, pop over to jackassletters.com, and see what’s been taking up a lot of my time. It’s live, but is really what I would think of as a beta site at this point. It still needs a lot of work.
I’ve let my goals list languish. Hell, I may have even accomplished some of the ones on there. I’ll have to look it back over.
Well, see you tomorrow morning, same bat time, same bat channel. I promise there will be a post.

So far Behind
abandon hope, all ye who….
So I missed my first Ugly Shirt Saturday, or to put a more positive spin, I decided to take a week off from putting any images up. I’ve been occupied with other things. I have photos for the Things I Hate section, an Ugly shirt to post, many photos for the People I Know portion of my gallery, and a bunch of half finished posts, but honestly, I just haven’t had the drive to do any of this stuff lately. I bit off something new and it’s consuming my time.
I think I am nearly done with that for a while though. If someone had told me I’ve be writing nearly 70 letters in 11 days I would have called them crazy. My goal was 30 for the month or thereabouts. I figured an average of one a day. But I kept getting ideas of places to write and things to say. I’ve been hammering them out whenever I get a bit of downtime.
Finally I got some responses. Up to 5 so far. I get excited for the idea of going home to check the mail. I can’t wait for today to be over so I can see if anyone wrote me! I bout $41 in “forever” stamps and burned out all the spare ones I had in my desk. I have some more old ones to part with, but I want to get rid of all my stamps. For the most part I use online bill pay for everything these days, so don’t really need stamps.
I’ve decided that once this crop of letters are done I am calling it a day for a while, see what percentage of places or people respond. Might not be worth doing long run. 1/14 response rate isn’t very good, but to be fair, some of these letters have only been in the mail a couple of days.
Are you lost on this post? We’ll, I’ve been writing people and companies letters, some are dumb, some offensive, and some are just plain cathartic. And yes, I do realize that sometimes there is just no way I will get a response.
