Money Money Money

money!

Got this in email Tuesday night:

Attention,

I am Mr John Jasper in South Africa, our client died Three years ago
leaving behind Capital amount (US$14.6M with interest) in our bank,
as his account manager, till date nobody has come forward
or put application for the claim.

During the bank private search for the relative recently your name and
email contact was among the findings that matches the same surname as the
deceases who died interstate with no Will or next of kin with our bank
record.

To maintain the level of security required I have intentionally left out
the final details. please, come forward since we can provide you with
the details needed for us to claim this Funds so that I and my colleague can be
gratifed by you.

To affirm your willingness and cooperation, please do so by replying me at
my private email stating your mind and also on how we should share the
funds and also send your private telephone number to us or call me if you
can.

I do expect your prompt response.

Thank you,
Mr. John Jasper

So, I promptly sent this reply:

Was your client’s last name Jorgensen? I am not aware of many
Jorgensens in South Africa. This isn’t one of those Nigerian scams
I’ve read about is it? What do you need from me?

I’m not so sure I am willing to gratify anyone at this point. I think
I would need to meet the person, or at least see pictures. Send me a
photo of who I am dealing with, and I might send you mine.

My mother told me not to give out my number, and I think yours is long
distance, so if for now, we could keep this in email that would be
great.

I hope to hear from you soon. I could really use some extra money, and
$14.6 million sounds like a lot!

Please write back. I am having trouble paying my bills and this could
be my salvation! I was just praying about this tonight and then your
email arrived. Are you the answers to my prayers?

Thanks for getting in contact with me on this important matter. I
really hope your client is a Jorgensen. Otherwise, once again, my
prayers will go unmet.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Christopher

I’ve already started to spend the money, so hope this isn’t a scam! John Jasper sounds like an honest name doesn’t it? If he writes back, I’ll be sure to let you know. I’m still not going to gratify anyone from Africa, no matter how much money they offer. Well, maybe for 15 million, but 14.6 million just isn’t enough (especially since it’s him and a “colleague”). I have standards.

Comments:

i got the same e-mail this past friday and decided to do a little searching. i actually got a reply from this jasper fellow after stating that i did not want to participate in any sort of scam. he wrote:

I got your mail and thanks very much for your prompt response to my proposal. Infact, after I read your e-mail, I discovered that you need more clarification and proper view as to what your responsibility must be in this proposed business transaction for our mutual benefit.
Firstly, I want you to realize that time is a major factor in this deal because as a Bank manger to this bank I do know that any moment from now if this fund is not applied for, it will be TERMED UNCLAIMED and send into the government treasury.
My dear friend, I want you to know that this is a serious and very lucrative business. As I rightly explained to you in my first mail, Mr. Oliver Mock was the original owner of this fund (US$14,600,000) Fourteen Million Six Hundred Thousand U.S Dollar that he deposited in our bank three years ago but unfortunately for him, since he died in October 2004 nobody has come forward as his next of kin.
So my major reason of contacting you is because you are a foreigner and we want you (being a foreigner) to be fronted as one of the next of kin to late Mr. Oliver Mock so that you can be able to apply for this said fund with our assistance as an insider in this bank.
Meanwhile, as somebody who maybe willing to genuinely assist us in this transaction, I must let you know that from the inception of this arrangement we have done our home work and regarding to the security of both parties, I assure you that we are 100% secured. Moreover, do know that we have reasoned around the clock before venturing into this transaction and as bankers we do know all the lop holes in transactions like this and for the fact that I am involved. I sincerely promise a perfect job.
You will have to forward your account details and other relevant documents to attest to the claim to the attorney of Oliver Mock who is a part of this deal. He is currently living in Spain and he is aware that I have contacted you as regards this transaction and he is expecting to hear from you any moment from now. He is Mr. Harrison Howard (.(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address), +34 6778 85031) and we shall use our positions to get all internal documentations to back up your claims. By the grace of God the whole Procedures will last only about fifteen – twenty working days to get the fund retrieved successfully without trace even in future. The bank account you will produce can be from any country so far it is a very reliable bank account.
He will be liaison between you and the bank, he will receive and send to you all that you will be needed to fill and sign from and for the bank in the Funds release process. If this is done carefully
coupled with my underground work here, I do believe God almighty, that the Bank will accept your status as the next of kin to Mr. Oliver Mock. And as a bank manager, I do know it will not take more than three - four working days for the bank to finish their verification.
Therefore, I want you to forward to him your full name and contact address, the copy of your international passport, your private telephone/fax numbers respectively.
Lastly, we shall be expecting total commitment from everyone of us in all aspect of this deal, and you should not forget at all times that confidentiality, and trust is the bedrock for the success of this business. Be informed that as soon as all communication lines are established a partnership agreement shall be drawn for the comfort of both parties because percentage sharing must be well outlined and documented. All expenses that will be incurred during the course of transferring the fund shall be deducted to re-reimburse all before final sharing. So you must keep good record of all your expenses.
This is my direct contact number (+27 7419 38219) you can call any time for further clarification on this matter. But please treat as urgent because time is very important.
