Websites
too many sites, too little time…
I control quite a few websites. More than can be counted on one hand, but less than could be counted on two. I have a hard time remembering them all. Sure, one’s only my .mac website, and all it has on it are links to my other sites, but it’s still webspace I control and can utilize. A bit back I got tired of one of my sites, decided to take down another for content reasons, and never got a third off the ground. I also signed over the reigns of yet another site (I no longer wanted to maintain or develop), dedicated to a social event, to a friend.
All this just goes towards explaining the redesign of this site. I missed having somewhere to journal. And I have great ideas for this site and all my others. I even have an idea for a new site (a semi-commercial venture). But it will be some time before I get to other sites. I want this one locked down and set up perfectly. It’s getting close, but there is still a lot to do (click the orb in the upper left corner for a list of changes to be made).
The next site I will attack will be my fervorflower.com (nsfw) site. I intend to recreate the online digital magazine it was originally intended to be, showcasing my poems and stories. I also plan to sell chapbooks on that site and to set up members only content. I think it will fly. It will also probably inspire me to write more. Then there is my thisflapfirst.com site.
Originally, thisflapfirst was a testing “server” in my basement (an early blue bubblegum iMac) and ran my first blog using Pmachine Pro. I wanted this setup so I could control my own box. It was supposed to be a way I could teach myself new technologies. I could have as much disc space as I wanted (my needs were simple), could configure Apache how I wanted (without having to resort to .htaccess files), and I could run my own mail server (actually, I couldn’t, since I could never get postfix to run under OS X 10.2 client). After about a year I got tired of paying for the business package and pmachine released ExpressionEngine.
So I moved thisflapfirst to a hosted service at pair.com. I sometimes miss having the box in my basement, but for the most part hosting with Pair has worked out great (they don’t host Rails, but since I don’t know Rails…it mostly works out. I do want to learn it though, and can’t use them, so that sucks.).
Let’s see, I tend to forget sites, but that’s all of them but one that I don’t want to tell people about: my necrophilia opossum fetish forums site with accompanying galleries (just kidding you sick bastards). Off topic, but I dare you google the idea for that site (safe search off of course). I got 229 hits. I double-dead-dog-dare you to click on the first URL of each page (29 sites). Never mind. I get easily distracted.
Then of course, like everyone, I have the idea I haven’t started working on, but that will make me enough money to retire by the time I’m 30. (I’m currently 37, but I tend to procrastinate.)
Anyway, short of it is, I have a lot of work to do. I’ll update you here as to how it is going.
